MISION & HISTORY

Our mission is identical to the one Christ gave His church in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20): we exist to make disciples of all nations by planting healthy local churches throughout the country. This very vision led Isai Rai, the founding pastor of Kathmandu Community Baptist Church (KCBC), to return to his homeland to plant this church.

Born and raised in a Christian home as a pastor’s son, Isai regularly heard the gospel from childhood and first professed faith in Christ at the age of fourteen. In 2003, he moved to Kathmandu to study theology, and after completing his bachelor’s degree, he moved to Malaysia for further theological studies. Upon returning to Nepal, he began teaching at a Bibel college, though he still harbored no desire to enter pastoral ministry. Seeking a normal working life, he later relocated to Dubai. There, he joined a church and became actively involved in the life of the congregation.

That season became a pivotal turning point.

On a Friday in April 2016, an associate pastor preached on David’s sin and salvation from Psalm 38. Through that sermon, Isai was deeply convicted of his sin. He later reflected that his hypocrisy and double life were exposed, leading him to genuine repentance and a renewed faith in Christ. While he had grown up in the church, this marked a defining season of profound spiritual renewal and true assurance. In Dubai, he also experienced biblical community at a deeper level, witnessing how faithful discipleship helps believers flourish. He was eventually invited to participate in their Pastoral Internship Program. By the end of that internship, he became deeply convinced of the urgent need for healthy churches in Kathmandu and sensed a clear calling to pastoral ministry.

In 2017, Isai returned to Nepal and married his wife, Nagina Rai. Together with a core team of friends, they planted Kathmandu Community Baptist Church (KCBC). Over the years, the Lord has faithfully grown the ministry—allowing them to witness many come to faith, establish a plural eldership, and plant multiple churches. Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, they also launched a gospel publishing ministry to supply sound, biblical resources to the broader Nepali church network.
